Mark Tenn is a British-Jamaican writer based in the NYC metro area working in character-driven Genre and Drama. He is a 2021 Academy Nicholl Fellowship Quarterfinalist and 2021 NALIP Latino Media Market Fellow with his near-future supernatural feature drama, BOUNTIFUL.
Mark’s journey into writing was forged by an international film acquisitions career helping to pre-buy films at the script stage from Kenneth Branagh, Jonathan Glazer, Terry Gilliam, Francois Ozon.… Having further honed perspectives on human conflict as a stay-at-home parent studying for a geopolitical masters degree, Mark co-wrote and produced his debut short, MIDNIGHTS, which was picked up by Sony Pictures TV and NALIP for the 2020 Voces Nuevas series broadcast on Cine Sony in the US.
Mark is a revisionist, cinematic storyteller fascinated by moral duplicity, his work invites you to look again. To see other sides of familiar coins and expose conventions that too often pass unchallenged.
Mark's close work with story spans international film development, production, acquisitions and distribution. He strategized film development for Cedric Jeanson at Filmbox and managed worldwide distribution operations for Australian drama, BURNING MAN, starring Matthew Goode which was nominated for 10 Australian Academy awards.
He supported script-stage film acquisitions at Little Magic Films/Toshiba Entertainment, a leading Japanese theatrical distributor of critically acclaimed films such as THE PIANIST, DIRTY PRETTY THINGS, FINDING NEVERLAND and THE MAGDALENE SISTERS.
Mark's production credits include Mia Hansen-Løve's French drama, EDEN, and Comedy Central’s IMPORTANT THINGS WITH DEMETRI MARTIN executive-produced by John Stewart. Mark also analyzed scripts and IP for several NYC producers including Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Lee Daniels and Open City Films/Blow-Up Pictures. He began his career at The Dench Arnold Agency, a UK film, TV and literary agency.
Originally from London and of Jamaican descent, Mark has lived in Japan and Italy and is a passionate global citizen. He is currently based in the NYC metro area where he lives with his wife and two young children.
